Lorus O Gemmer, 98 of Quincy LORUS O. GEMMER Wenatchee World, The (WA) — Tuesday, April 5, 1994 QUINCY - Lorus O. Gemmer, 98, of Quincy, died Saturday, April 2, 1994, in Quincy Valley Hospital in Quincy.
She was born Oct. 7, 1895, to Herbert and Daisy (Moore) Thomas at Battleground, Ind. She came west by train to Machias, as a toddler in 1898. She attended grade school in Machias, and graduated from Everett High School in 1915. She attended Bellingham Normal School, and taught all eight grades in a one-room school house.
She married Edward Gemmer on Feb. 14, 1920. Mr. Gemmer was foreman at the Monroe Logging Company for many years. Mrs. Gemmer lived at Machias until 1977, when she moved to Quincy, except for four years when she operated the family's tourist court at Soap Lake.
She was a member of the Machias Historical Society.
She is survived by two sons, Daryl of Everett and Quenton of Arlington; three daughters, Millie Williams of Spokane, Dorothy Schroeder of Quincy, and June Ponis of Soap Lake; three sisters, Mabel Koller of Chula Vista, Calif., Shirley Hart of Renton, and Jean Woolworth of Snohomish; 36 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1982, a son, two brothers, six sisters, a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
