Lottie was my Mom's Grandmother, someone that she never met. It would have been wonderful for my Mom and her brothers to have known their Grandparents and cousins in Michigan. This would have given them an appreciation of the many family members there who could help them know and understand their father better.

It is not known why the spelling of Lottie's name is 'Alotie' on the headstone she shares with her husband. Lottie and James David were my Maternal Great-Grandparents and researching their family history has provided many, many hours of enjoyment (and frustration) over the years! Lottie and James David were the parents of my Grandfather, Harold Oscar Hillaker who has proven to be the proverbial 'brick wall' in my family tree research since the 1980's! His brother, James said that his parents Lottie and James David had not seen Harold since the 1930's and were not sure of his whereabouts at the time of their deaths. I would hope that he kept in contact with some of his cousins or other relatives and knew of family deaths and births over the years...

  I would LOVE to maintain this memorial for 'Alotie Hillaker'! She was my Great-Grandmother! I found it amusing when visiting her gravesite several years ago and discovering how her name was engraved as noted. Her birth name was Lottie Viola Jones. I'm not sure how her name came to be engraved like this or who the company was who engraved it, would love to know the story. Thanks so much, Helen, member # 47702523
