Louis J. LeConte served in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War as a Private in Capt. Wheaton's Company, Georgia Artillery (Chatham Artillery). He enlisted on April 14, 1863 at Camp Ashby. He served with this regiment until the end of the war, except for a few weeks following December 22, 1863, when he was granted furlough.
Louis Julian LeConte was the assistant engineer in charge of Oakland Harbor in California.
