Caleb Mead, Jr. (Oct. 28, 1716 - January 1798), son of Caleb, grandson of Ebenezer, great grandson of John, second great grandson of William, said to be born and died in Horseneck, Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut.
Asserted to have married Hannah Rundle (Apr. 21, 1716 - c1770) on Dec. 2, 1736 in Greenwich in a ceremony officiated by Rev. Todd. She was born in Greenwich the daughter of Samuel Rundle and Hannah Hardy.
"In May of 1745 young Caleb was commissioned Lieutenant in the Stanwich or East Train Band of Militia, and ever afterwards in letters and documents he is referred to as Lieutenant Caleb" (source: Edgar Thorn Mead).
Asserted to have been brevetted a Captain during the Revolutionary War when he and all his sons, with the exception of Stephen, who was lame, went off to probably White Plains. After the war, he was returned to the rank of Lieutenant. "He wrote to a cousin in 1769 telling him about 'my new house'. With six children and hired help, no doubt Lt. Caleb needed all the room he could get" (source: www.meadburyinggrounds.org/lot_drake02.html).
His birth date of Dec. 28, was taken from the Mead Burying Grounds website, in which he and Hannah are buried (the lot is at Drake's Corner).
