Revolutionary War Lt. Colonel 1775-1783. Died in Torbet (now Delaware) Twp., age 61 years. Married May 15, 1762 Rosanna Cooper. He resided in Bernards Twp., Somerset Co., New Jersey until abt 1770; then Pequannock Twp., Morris Co. until 1778; then Bedminster Twp., Somerset Co. until abt July 1792, when he removed to Northumberland Co., PA where his son, Joseph, was located, and there died. He was a Free Mason. While in Morris Co., May 1776, he was the first man to sign the articles of association of many citizens to sustain the Continental Congress (NJSA 1st Series, Vol. X, p717). May 15, 1777 he was appointed Lieutenant-Colonel in the Western Battalion, Morris Co. Militia, but subsequently resigned. (NJSA 2nd Series, Vol.I, p290; Stryker's Officers and Men, p358. In 1782 he was Justice of the Peace; from 1782-84 he was clerk of the Board of Chosen Freeholders of Somerset Co., NJ, 1783 he was appointed a Lay Judge of the Somerset Courts.
