Lucille Payne Jones, 95, of Spotsylvania County passed away Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Jones was a 1935 graduate of Chancellor High School, where she was the Valedictorian of her class. She was a lifelong member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years and was a past president of United Methodist Women. Mrs. Jones was also a past member of the Spotsylvania County Extension Homemakers Club and was instrumental in making a needlepoint wall hanging that was presented to Governor Godwin and displayed in Richmond. Among her many passions were a love for spending time with her family, cooking, hand crafts, playing BINGO and a special love for playing Scrabble. Prior to her death, Mrs. Jones resided at Greenfield Senior Living in Spotsylvania.

Survivors include daughter Nancy Jones Parr; grandchildren Donna Parr Harris (Jeffrey) and Karen Kaye Parr; great-grandchildren Eric Sean Fox (JoAnn), Jason Michael Fox and Taylor Scott Bates; great-great-grandson Brayden Sean Fox; a special niece, Pamela Payne Helie; a special nephew, Michael Douglas Payne; and several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Freemond C. and Amanda K. Payne; and husband Elton D. Jones.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, at Shady Grove United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Shady Grove United Methodist Church cemetery.
