- Ellen Nora Smith is the daughter of Phillip Smith and Lucy Ann Ayers. She is the mother of Twelve children. Rufus Elliott Funk, Clara Maurnin Funk (Gibson), Alpheus Funk, Lula Myrtle Funk (Seymour), Lucy Belle Funk, William Allen Funk, Lucy Mae Funk (Bashaw), Harvey Funk, Ethel Mary Funk (Michalson), Lester Claude Funk, Nora Fern Funk (Hegewald), Stella Jane Funk. The first eight children being born in Illinois and last four were born in Nebraska. She died at the young age of 48.

- Lucy Anne Ayres Smith was born in Hamilton County, near Cincinnatti, Ohio, August 17, 1826, and died at the home of her youngest son, Ed Smith, June 17, 1920, being 93 years and ten months old .
- In 1852 she moved with her husband to Adams county, Illinois, where she lived until 1884, at which time she moved to Wellsville, Kans., in and near where she lived until her death.
- She is survived by seven children, 30 grand children; 72 great grandchildren and one great great grand child. _______________________
- Lucy Ann was named after her Fathers' first wife who died at the age of 26. Lucy Ann and her husband work and owned their own farm in Beverly, Il. It is from this farm that Philip left to join the Union Army. He never returned. Lucy Ann raised her children in Adams Co., Il. Russell worked the farm. In the late 1880's the entire family moved into the Wellsville area.
- As Lucy Ann got older she moved in with her youngest son, Ed and his wife, Mina. They owned a farm in the Leloup area.
- Two Ayers enlisted at Quincy, Il. John H. and Gideon H. John in Company H 151st Infantry and Gideon Company D 10th Infantry.
