About Luke Coon, I
GEDCOM Note
The Burdick Genealogy shows that Luke Jr. was born in Painted Post, NY. I had always discounted this since Luke Sr. was born in Petersburg and was there in 1806 thru 1816 taking care of his father's estate.
Yesterday, 17 Dec. 2000, I discovered a list of people who had purchased land from the Holland Land Co. between 1797 and 1824 and a Luke Coon was listed as buying land in 1805 in township 6, Range 11 which is in the present Townships of Hanover and Sheridan in Western NY State. This is about 5 to 10 miles East of the present day town of Dunkirk, NY on the shore of lake Erie. If he was there in 1805, it is entirely possible that he was in Painted Post in 1804 when Luke, Jr. was born.
