About Luther (Tuff) Ransom Spencer

From his obituary:

Luther Ransom Spencer Rites:

One of the largest gatherings that ever attended a funeral service at the place met at the Fairmount church southeast of Pleasanton Sunday to pay a last tribute of respect to Luther Ransom Spencer mention of whose death was made in the paper last week. The church would not hold the large number that was present. A lifelong friend of the deceased, REv. LeRoy Carpenter, of Amoret, Missouri, officiated. He paid a glowing tribute to his friend whose remains lie before him, and offered words of consolation to those who were left to mourn his departure, and over his remains read the following obituary: Luther Ransom Spencer was born July 17, 1886, died May 26, 1936, aged 49 years, 9 months and 9 days; is survived by his aged parents, 1 sister and 4 brothers: Ethel Pryor, Pittsburg, Kansas, James, Charles, Lester and Lawrence, all near hume. He was a quiet person, going about and doing good where needed most. The road was never too long or the weather too hot or cold for him to go to the aid of one in distress. He loved his home and parents. His religion was doing unto others as he would have them do unto him. He had abiding faith in his God and was ready to go at the Master's call. He was a lover of nature and loved the out-of-doors life hunting and fishing being a happy hobby of his.

Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Gifford and Mrs. Albert Ham, with Miss Alice Crowel at the piano, who sang very feelingly, "It is Well With My Soul: and "When I take my Vacation in Heaven."

Following the church service the remains were conveyed to the Littell cemetery and tenderly laid to rest, his four brothers and two nephews acting as pallbearers.

This paper joins with its readers in expressions of sympathy to those bereaved.
