Biography

Lydia Turner was born on 24 January 1652, the daughter of John Turner and his wife Mary Brewster.[1] She was baptized 20 Feb 1652.[2]

Lydia Turner married first John James were married before January 1676/7, when their son John was born.[3][4] John was born, say 1646 possibly in England. He was living on 26 February 1677/8, when "Lydia James, wife of John James," acknowledged a deed at Scituate,[5] but had died at Scituate probably shortly before 5 March 1678/9 when his widow signed an administration bond with her father.[6]

Lydia was widowed with a small child when her first husband may have succumbed to injuries sustained in a skirmish with Indians. John James lived several years after his wounds and he could not have died immediately from those wounds. His death seems somewhat of a mystery as documents signed by him proved that he lived despite his wounds.[4]

Lydia married second William Barrells 20 Apr 1680 at Scituate.[7]

Lydia passed away in 1714, buried in the Second Church Cemetery, now in Norwell, Mass.[8]

Her will is dated 29 April 1714 and proved on 13 July 1714 in Plymouth. She mentions her sons, John James, and William Barrel, her father, John Turner, decd., and her daughters, Lidia Stockbridge, wife of Samuel Stockbridge, and Mary Cushing. Her inventory was taken on 5 July 1714 in Scituate and recorded in Plymouth.[9]
