About Lydia Chapman

GEDCOM Note

Biography

Lydia Wells, who married Ralph Chapman in 1642, was “almost certainly daughter of Isaac Wells of Scituate and Barnstable.”<ref> Robert Charles Anderson, “The Great Migration: Immigrants to New England 1634-1635”, Boston, New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1999-2011, Vol II, C-F, page 53.</ref>
In 1635 Lydia Wells, a servant of William Hatch, enrolled at Sandwich as a passenger to New England on the Hercules. According to Anderson,it is not clear if this Lydia Wells became the wife of Ralph Chapman.<ref> Robert Charles Anderson, “The Great Migration: Immigrants to New England 1634-1635”, Boston, New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1999-2011, Vol II, T-Y, page 293.</ref> This profile previously said that Lydia was born in 1618 in Marshfield, Plymouth, Massachusetts, which is not possible. The location has been removed. The 1618 birthdate is considered to be an estimate.
