DO NOT CONFUSE WITH Lydia Ingersoll
The wife of Ingersole had just one child and died prior to her husband's second marriage in 1739.
The wife of Fay had many children and died prior to her husband's second marriage in 1760.
This Lydia WAS NOT the daughter of John Child and Hannah French, despite what is shown on several internet sites.
Lydia Child Fay is [NOT] the d/o of Joseph Child and his 2nd wife Ruth Church Maddock(s). Her full siblings were Abigail (b. Sept. 19, 1708) and Ebenezer (b. Jan 19, 1711/12). This Lydia married James Fay, of Westboro, Dec. 9, 1727. The info is from Henry Bond's "Genealogies of the Families and Descendants of the Early Settlers of Watertown, Massachusetts . . . " (1860).
Henry Bond's "Genealogies of the Families and Descendants of the Early Settlers of Watertown, Massachusetts . . . " (1860). Joseph Child married Ruth Maddock in 1705. Joseph had a daughter Lydia born June 2, 1706 who married James Fay in 1727. (page 157)

DO NOT CONFUSE THIS LYDIA WITH Lydia Fay
Many internet sites have Lydia Fay as the daughter of John Child and Hannah French. However, John's will was dated 6 Apr 1742 and proved 14 Dec 1747. His children Lydia and Mehitable were not mentioned in the will and had probably died before 1742. This could not be the Lydia who married James Fay because they had children born through 1756, and she died in 1758, according to https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/5722066/lydia-fay.

Lydia's husband, James was a farmer, a bonesetter and a deacon of the 'separate church' until it removed bodily to Bennington, VT., in 1761. The separate church was duly organized after the following and similar votes were taken by the old church, viz., July 25, 1749, 'Voted that the church send to Rev. Edwards, Hall and Eaton to come and give their advice about the dissatisfied brethren in our church, viz., Samuel Robinson, James Fay, (and three others named), whether the church dismiss, or censure them as disorderly, etc. The council advised and the church voted to comply with the advice but James Fay (and two others named) declared non-compliance.
He and his wife Lydia united with the church in Westboro, July 7, 1728, and they, with their sons, James Jr, and Daniel, with his wife, Elizabeth Spooner, were among the original members of the 'Separate Church' of Hardwick at its organization in 1750.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Feb 9 2023, 16:48:27 UTC
