notes

Beverly, MA records of 23 Apr 1762 show, "Lydia Soames, of Beverly, widow; Abigail, wife of Jacob Woodberry; and Hannah, wife of Jonathan Corning, had each one third of the Real Estate of their deceased Father, Herbert Thorndike, his widow releasing her Right of Dower."1
Around 1764 she came as a widow with two daughters to Yarmouth, NS along with her relatives from Beverly, MA. In 1767 in the division of the township lands she had one share (978 acres). The Soames family was among the earliest at Cape Ann. In one of his diaries Rev Jonathan Scott relates that on 24 Mar 1773, while on his way to Boston to visit his mother, his vessel put in at Cape Ann and that the next morning he "went on board Capt Soames vessel to go to Boston, because Capt. Ring was going to tarry at Cape Ann, and got safe ashore at Boston before night".
