Dundas [1] was the first bill collector for the Bank of Scotland in Glasgow.
In 1787 he was a member of the management committee of the Merchants House and Chamber of Commerce,
and a director of the town hospital.
He was a founder and first secretary for the Chamber of Commerce in 1783, and the Lord Provost of Glasgow in 1792 and 1793.
Preceptor of Hutchesons Hospital and President Humane Society in 1790.
Major of the Armed Association in 1803.
Member of the Glasgow Stock Exchange association from 1845-1862.
He was appointed a Glasgow Magistrate, and by 1861 was Secretary of the Glasgow Gas & Light Company.
