The Lands of Cardarroch

On 24 May 1652 Malcolm Fleming of Cardarroch transferred ownership of the four merk land of Cardarroch to his eldest son, John Fleming of Cardarroch, and to John's wife Elizabeth Crawford. For the time being it cannot be regarded as certain but it seems likely that Malcolm granted this land in fee and heritage to his son and that John gave it in liferent to his new wife. Malcolm probably also reserved his own liferent, and the rights of his own heirs whomsoever in the event of the failure of his eldest son and his heirs [National Archives of Scotland, Papers Belonging to Crawford of Clobberhill and Kilbrirnie, 1491-1846, reference GD1/113/2/22].
