About John Fleming of Cardarroch
JOHN FLEMING OF CARDARROCH
John Fleming is the eldest son of Malcolm Fleming of Cardarroch and the father of Malcolm Fleming. He is probably also the father of Elspeth Fleming and Agnes Fleming, both of whom were named beneficiaries in their grandfather's last will and testament. [National Records of Scotland, Hamilton and Campsie Commissary Court, The Testament Testamentar of Malcome Fleyming of Cardarroch, reference CC10/5/7]
The Lands of Cardarroch
On 24 May 1652 Malcolm Fleming of Cardarroch transferred ownership of the four merk land of Cardarroch to his eldest son, John Fleming of Cardarroch, and to John's wife Elizabeth Crawford. For the time being it cannot be regarded as certain but it seems likely that Malcolm granted this land in fee and heritage to his son and that John gave it in liferent to his new wife. Malcolm probably also reserved his own liferent, and the rights of his own heirs whomsoever in the event of the failure of his eldest son and his heirs [National Records of Scotland, Papers Belonging to Crawford of Clobberhill and Kilbrirnie, 1491-1846, reference GD1/113/2/22]

Children
The Baillies of Cardarroch
It is suggested here that John Fleming of Cardarroch is the brother of Lillias Fleming, who married Robert Baillie, Principal of the University of Glasgow. The suggestion is a speculative one, but it is founded upon the following facts: (1) Lillias Fleming is identified as a member of the Cardarroch family in the Fasti of the Church of Scotland, which says that Robert Baillie married in 1631: "Lilias Fleming of the family of Cardarroch, parish of Cadder, who died 7th June 1653" Fasti VII: 395 Lillias Fleming's only surviving son inherited the Cardarroch estate.
