Death of Mrs. Mahaffey*
Mrs. Margaret Barton Mehaffey died at her home in Cane Creek township, a few miles west of Lancaster, early on the morning of Thursday, July 28, in the 75th year of her life. Mrs. Mehaffey was the widow of the late George Mehaffey and is survived by a large family connection. The funeral cortage left the home Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock and the funeral services and interment took place at Douglas Presbyterian church at 5 o'clock. Rev. H.P. Bennette, pastor of the Second Baptist church officiating assisted by Rev. B.H. Lochridge, pastor of Calvary Baptist church. The following were the pall-bearers: Coy Paul, Sidney Palmer, Howard Mehaffey and Orville Threatt. Mrs. Mehaffey was a member of the Second Baptist church.
Among surviving members of the family and connections are the following: R.D.F. Barton and W.H.B. Barton of the Antioch section, brothers; Mrs. John King, Lancaster, sister; six sons, J.W., F.F., T.J. Mehaffey, Lancaster; D.F. Mehaffey, Great Falls, and H.W. Mehaffey, Rock Hill; D.B. Mehaffey, Hillsboro, N.C.; one daughter Mrs. Lucy Threatt of Pageland; thirty-two grandchildren; two great grandchildren. Arrangements for the burial were in the hands of the Ellis Funeral Home, Lancaster.
