Maria Elizabeth Cheney

Maria (Marie) contracted polio at the age of 8 and was bedridden for about 4 years and it was feared that she would never walk again. Her mother diligently massaged her legs night and day till she was able to walk again. She was left with a very slight limp. Needless to say - she grew up to a fine and healthy woman - married and gave natural birth to 5 healthy children.Maria resided in 1938 at Fourth Avenue, Capital Park, Pretoria. She was a typist before 1938 in Pretoria and after her marriage assisted her husband in his business. Her hobby was the crocheting of woolen garments. She was a member of the Methodist Church. In 1971 she lived at 31 Monteda Flats, Hamilton Street, Arcadia Pretoria.
