Maria was born about 1830 in London. She married Lewis Nathan at the New Sydnagogue in London, England in 1853 and then emmigrated to Australia.

There is a notation that Maria Nathan (known as Granny Nathan) assisted with Tahara (?) in the then Jewish Community.

Maria's headstone transcription reads -

In loving memory of our dear mother Maria Nathan, who dies 8th July 1907, aged 78 years.

Hebrew Translation reads -

Here lies Miriam daughter of Avraham Moshe. Dies on 26 Tammuz 5667. May her soul be bound in the bond of eternal life.
