“FORMER JACKSON TOWNSHIP CITIZEN DEAD AT SANDBORN.”
Mrs. Mariah HILL, wife of James HILL, a resident of Taylor Ridge for a number of years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank LUCAS, at Sandborn, this morning. She was aged eighty-seven years, one month and four days.
She leaves to mourn their loss, two sisters, Mrs. Mahala HILL, of Koleen, and Mrs. George CHANEY, and also Mrs. Frank F. LUCAS, Adam HILL, Everett KNOWLES and Albert HILL. She is survived by twenty-four grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held Saturday at the M. E. church at Stafford.
In 1850 she lived with her parents and seven siblings on a farm in Jackson Township, Greene County, IN.
In 1860 she and her parents and eleven siblings lived there.
In 1870 she and her parents and seven siblings lived there. She married Barzilla J Hill September 28, 1872 in Greene County, IN.
In 1880 she and her husband and their four children lived on a farm in the same township.
In 1900 she and James and their three youngest children lived there. They owned their home, mortgage free. Albert worked as a farm laborer.
In 1920 she lived with her daughter Alice, her husband, and their three children in a house they owned, mortgage free, at 773 First Street SW in Linton, IN. Her son-in-law worked as a section man for a railroad.
In 1930 she lived with her daughter Alice, her husband, their son Noah, his wife, and their daughter in a house they owned at 789 Unknown (or illegible on census record) Street SW in Linton. Their home was valued at $800, and they did not have a radio. Her son-in-law and grandson both worked for the Sexton Railroad, Frank as a foreman, and Noah as a laborer.
