About Marie Hattingh (de Lanoy)

From Aulis, France

de Lanoy & de France in Boucher

The information concerning the Lanoys in Botha’s French refugees is both incomplete and inaccurate,115 but has been revised by Hoge in his useful additions and corrections to the standard work.116

The Lanoys were evidently at the Cape by 1688 and it would seem that the father, Nicolas de Lanoy, died soon afterwards, leaving a widow
Marguerite de France and five children, Nicolas de Lanoy, Mathieu de Lanoy, Marie de Lanoy, Suzanne de Lanoy and Francois de Lanoy. The mother and her eldest sons were assisted in 1690. Marie de Lanoy first married the settler Arie Dirksz Lekkerwijn, or Lecrevent, of Boskoop near Leyden. Her brother Nicolas married Susanne de Vos, widow of Pierre Jacob. Here we have a connection with the Calaisis and it is possible that the Lanoys were members of the Guines congregation, where the name is of frequent occurrence.117
