About Marion Bogle

MARION BOGLE

Marion Bogle, here treated, is the daughter of John Bogle of Bogleshole, WS, and his wife, Isobel Henderson. She was born on 28 January 1725 and her baptism was registered at Edinburgh in Midlothian, Scotland. Her baptismal record reads as follows: "[31 January 1725] John Bogle writer to the Signet & Isobel Henderson his spouse A.D.N. Marion W: James & Mr Andrew Haliburtons writers to the Signet Matthew Broun one of the Under Clerks to the Session & John Gibson writer born 28 Inst". Co-heiress of Bogleshole

Marion Bogle, here treated, and her four sisters survived the death of their brother, William Bogle of Bogleshole, and, since he had no male heirs, they fell heir to his lands, viz. a thirty-three shilling four penny land of old extent of Nether Carmyle called Bogleshole ,another six shilling eight penny land of old extent of Nether Carmyle, and a six shilling eight penny land of old extent of Over Carmyle, including part of Clyde Mill and the right to fish for salmon in the Water of Clyde. In addition to this, they also inherited his twenty-three shilling for penny land of old extent of Blair Tummock, in the neighbouring parish of Old Monkland. A one fifth share of these lands fell to Marion [National Archives of Scotland, Register House, Edinburgh, Commissariot Records of Glasgow, Register of Testaments, The Testament Dative and Inventory of the late Alexander Peter, Merchant in Glasgow, confirmation was granted on 26 August 1806, reference CC9/7/79 folios 376-78]

Death

Marion Bogle, here treated, died of consumption on 2 June 1763 and was buried in Blackfriars Churchyard in Glasgow. She was thirty years of age. Her death record identifies her in the following way: "Marion Bogle sps of Thos Peter jnr of Crossbasket". [Registrar General for Scotland, New Register House, Edinburgh, Glasgow Deaths, 1757-68, reference OPR.644/48 item 3] Image of Burial Record

Marriage

Marion Bogle, here treated, married Thomas Peter of Crossbasket and Cardarroch (1723-74), probably in Glasgow, on or before 30 September 1750. The Church of Scotland marriage register for Glasgow records this event thus: "Thos: Peters Mene Bogle irregularly married". The fact that they were irregularly married suggests that they belonged to one of the dissenting churches, rather than the established Church of Scotland [Registrar General for Scotland, New Register House, Edinburgh, Glasgow Marriages, 1729-65, reference OPR.644/25] Image of Marriage Record
