Marjorie died unexpectedly at home in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was born in Lexington, Missouri. She graduated from Lexington High School, Christian College (now Columbia College) and the University of Missouri. During her senior year at MU, she was a part of the 1940-41 debate team that won the National Collegiate Debate Championship and the International Collegiate Debate Championship.
She married Stewart E. Tatum on January 22, 1944. He predeceased her in 1998. She is survived by Darwin and Judith (Tatum) Newcom, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Thomas and Cathy (Tatum) Dunn, of Edmond, Oklahoma. Also surviving is her grandson Montgomery S. Newcom and great grandson Holden Newcom of Carlsbad, California, and granddaughter Meredith L. Newcom, of Ventura, California.
She loved Joplin in which she resided for over fifty years before moving to Edmond, Oklahoma to live with her son-in-law and daughter. She was active in many organizations, including A.A.U.W., P.E.O., Gamma Phi Beta, the Joplin Historical Society, the Joplin Boys Ranch, the Joplin Women's Club, Twin Hills Golf Club, and the First Community Church. Sue was a "people person" and will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
