Martha was born in Kentucky the daughter of Wiley Arnett and Elizabeth Sizemore. On July 20, 1857 she married Nathaniel "Nathan" Howard the son of Benjamin Howard and Nancy Adams and the grandson of William Howard and Molly Salyer. Nathaniel and Martha Ann's children are; Harris Howard, Garrett Howard-1861-1865, Calihan Howard, Harriet (Howard) Minix, Elizabeth (Howard) Davis, Doctor Galen Howard, Proctor Howard, Bernard Blackburn Howard, Lulie (Howard) Minix Deam Arnett and Bertha "Pet" Howard.
