- Note: DATES OF DEATH FOR JOHN (1655) & FOR MARTHA(1656) Above stuff is a lot of nonsense - the dates are wrong (check the profiles) ALSO Ellis Pugh cannot possibly a son as Martha would only have been 3 years old and so would John have been (Paul George Boone Hughes-04/05/2016)

Just read on WikiTree that there is a Welsh custom where sons sometimes take on the given name of their father’s as a last name. This explains how John. Hughes took his father’s (Hugh Cadwallader Rhys) as his last name.
