Martha Wood

Biography

Martha Wood was born on January 7, 1746, in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, USA. Her parents were William Kendrick and Sarah Jane Kendrick. (Jones), her mother was first cousin to Frances Orlando ‘Fanny’ Dandridge mother of Martha (Dandridge) Washington, 1st First Lady of the United States.

Martha married Capt. William Wood on May 28, 1764, possibly in North Carolina. Together they had the following children:

• Disey Arnold;
• Penuel Wood;
• William Kendrick Wood;
• Dorcas Cross;
• Mary Thompson;
• Elizabeth Harris;
• Jones Kendrick Wood.

She died on February 14, 1831, in Mecklenburg, NC and was buried in February 1831 in Wood Family Cemetery, Randolph County, North Carolina, USA.
