About Martin Cummings
Born and attended school in Watertown, WI.
He moved to Chicago for several years and worked in various capacities.
Martin moved to the East and spent many years in New York City and Philadelphia, where he was a private secretary to Allen Pinkerton, the noted detective.
Later, Martin returned to Chicago and worked with his brother Andrew at Thomson's Restaurant, where Andrew was the proprietor.
Martin's failing health compelled him to retire from business about two years before he passed away. He moved from Chicago to Watertown about six months before he died.
His obituary said he was a gentleman of many excellent qualities, that he was kind-hearted, generous, entertaining, affable, courteous and obliging.
