About Michael Cummings
Information found on FindAGrave.com, researched by Shirley Conley from 1980 to 2018.
Michael Cummings was born in the Parish of Kelcommon, Mayo, Ireland. He immigrated to America circa 1840's. Michael may have worked for his future father-in-law, Azel Lathrop, who was in the iron ore business and employed hundreds of men in Port Henry, NY.
Michael married Susan Lathrop circa 1844. Their first son, Andrew Cummings, was born in the Hamlet of Port Henry, New York on May 18, 1845.
In 1849, the family moved to Watertown, Wisconsin. Michael became involved with the Democratic party in Watertown and is found as a Constable in 1851. In 1863, at the age of 44, Michael registered for the civil war but was never called.
Note: There are two Parishes of Kelcommon in Mayo. Cummins records have not been found.
No marriage documentation has been located - contacted City or Port Henry.
I believe Michael's siblings were Bridget Cummings born 1813 married to Cornelius Dugen, Patrick Cummings b-1820, Ann Cummings b-7/1825 married Michael Hackett, William Cummings b-1826, John Cummings-b1826 - all were found in the Watertown, WI censuses.
