Martinus 'Martin' Delport (1938 - 2002)

Brief overview:

Martin (65), was shot in the stomach and died in the kitchen of his home, in Bronkhorstspruit, on 12th November 2002.

His daughter, Melanie (19), was attacked at their farm store, and a worker shot in the foot.

Martin's wife, Maureen (56), said her husband had been gasping for breath and she had tried to give him sugar water. She said: "He stumbled into the house after the attack and said: 'Maureen, I have been shot'."

The Delport family farmed milk, chickens and mealies for 22 years.

Captain Tom van Rensburg, head of detectives at Bronkhorstspruit, said they were investigating the possibility that a worker who was fired last week was involved in the attack.
