Text: The Gorgas Family. Descendants of John Psyche Rittenhouse Gorgas of Germantown. By Mildred Goshow. Roxborough, Philadelphia 1966...Page 64.
Catherine Gorgas, daughter of Jacob Gorgas and Catherine Ho rtter, was married at the Reformed Church of Germantown, Ma y 17, 1803.
There have been no wills or deeds located. Children of Wiliam and Catherine Gorgas were. Ann Wunder, b. April 2, 1804 . George E. Wunder, b. March 29, 1807. Samuel Gorgas Wunder , b. March 29, 1809. Jacob Wunder, b. July 31, 1811. William Wunder, Jr., b. August 26, 1816. Mary Wunder, b. Januar y 23, 1818.
All were baptized in Germantown. Paul Kripner married Susanna Head in 1762. This interest in William Van Akin's family continued. Paul Kripner "advanced in years" in years.(age 80 at death in April, 1776). Provided in his will legacies of 25 pounds each to Ann, Susanna and Margaret and 150 po unds to Paul, children of William Van Akin, deceased. It i s surprising to find that Susanna Kripner also provided for them in her will, proved November, 1793, by devising 8 ac res of land in Germantown Township to Ann and Margaret an d a legacy of 150 pounds to Susanna Beck, daughters of William Van Akin, deceased, She did not mention Paul.
After the death of William VanAken, it is probable that Mary's father John Gorgas, supported her and her family. This would explain why she did not receive a full share of his estate on the same basis as the other nine children. John Gorgas provided, by will, a home-the right to live in a s long as she lived in " a small tenement in Germantown Twp , on the west side of Germantown Main Street, where Mary Sunday now dwelleth, together with the garden formally let with said tenement." In partition of the real estate of John Gorgas, among his nine children (excluding Mary). in 1782 , this house was allotted to Mary's half brother, Joseph Gorgas, subject to the estate for life of Mary VanAkin. John Gorgas also provided Mary with an income for life-the interest on 100 pounds, or, if necessary her support, part o f the principal, the balance left at her death to be divided among her children. On Nov 18, 1851, this property was deeded to Peter Gorgas and his wife, after the death of Joseph Gorgas.
Children of William Van Aken and his wife Mary Gorgas.,
1. Ann Van Aken, married George Wunder, victualler of Germantown he died November 6, 1825, age 68 yrs 2 days.
2. Susannah VanAken, probably married Beck.
3. Margaret Van Akin d. June 26, 1850, in her 86th year, married Joseph Starne, Jr. of Roxborough Twp, later of Northern Liberties, Philadelphia County. b. Sept 12, 1762 d. Se p 27, 1826, in his 64th year.
4. Paul Van Aken, married Elizabeth, step daughter of Conrad Ax of Frankford Borough, Philadelphia County.
Other property of Catherine Hortter Gorgas was sold to Joseph Wise, but sales were never recorded. It is necessary t o mention that the wills of both Conrad Ax and Beck were witnessed by George Wunder. Parts of this are the work of Mildred Goshow who was researching the Gorgas family and I have added other parts to thread the information together. The two children of George Wunder and Anne VanAken that we have documented are Paul Vanakin Wunder and Samuel Henry Wund er. Paul married Barbara Ritthouse and Samuel married first Sarah Unknown and second wife Catherine Wartman. William Wunder who married Catherine Gorgas has some documentation.
William Wunder may have been the William Wunder, weaver, Sharpnack Street, who was listed in the Germantown section o f the Philadelphia directory in 1854.

Other property of Catherine Hortter Gorgas was sold to Jose ph Wise, but sales were never recorded. It is necessary t o mention that the wills of both Conrad Ax and Beck were wi tnessed by George Wunder. Parts of this are the work of Mil dred Goshow who was researching the Gorgas family and I hav e added other parts to thread the information together. Th e two children of George Wunder and Anne VanAken that we ha ve documented are Paul Vanakin Wunder and Samuel Henry Wund er. Paul married Barbara Ritthouse and Samuel married firs t Sarah Unknown and second wife Catherine Wartman. Willia m Wunder who married Catherine Gorgas has some documentatio n.
William Wunder may have been the William Wunder, weaver, Sh arpnack Street, who was listed in the Germantown section o f the Philadelphia directory in 1854.
