Family of origin: Mary was the daughter of Governor Joseph Jenks. Governor JOSEPH JENKS born at Providence 1656 and died June 15, 1740. He married at Providence MARTHA BROWN, daughter of John and Mary (Holmes) Brown. There are no records extant concerning her dates of birth and death. His second marriage was to ALICE SMITH DEXTER, widow of John Dexter, and took place on February 3, 1727. She was born in 1665, the daughter of John and Sarah (Whipple) Smith, died Feb. 19, 1736. Governor Jenks was first buried in the old cemetery near Read and High Streets but was afterwards removed (in 1831) to the Mineral Spring Cemetery, Pawtucket. Children, of the first marriage:

i. Joseph, b. 1682; d. (young).

ii. Obediah,4 b. 1684.

iii. Nathaniel,4 b. 1686/7.

iv. Martha, b. 1689; m. (1) John Andrews; m. (2) Peleg Cook.

v. Lydia.

vi. Mary, b. 1692.

vii. Catherine, b. 1694; d. 1792; m. William Turpin.

viii. Esther, b. 1695; m. Benjamin Bucklin, Sept. 14, 1726. 27 ix. John,4 b. June 9, 1696.
