Mary Louise Gough Horton Heldreth/Hildreth was born to Thomas Dragoo and Alitha Catherine (Flesher) Gough in Roane County, West Virginia. Her siblings were: Albert, Marshall Elliott, Sarah Jane, Solona Florence, Porter, Perry Green, Monroe Jackson, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin.

She married Ben Henry Horton of Ohio in 1866 and they had two sons, Waitman Francis and Columbus A. Horton. Ben died shortly after Columbus was born.

Mary Louise married for a second time on 27 Apr 1872 to William Harrison Heldreth. They had three children: Rufus, William H. and Iva.

Mary Louise was preceded in death by William who died in 1885 and son Rufus. She died in 1909.
