Research Notes

Many trees on other sites have attached an image of a tombstone for "Mary Williams" in the Easton Lot burial ground in Middletown, Rhode Island. The use of this image appears to be due to someone other than the memorial manager attaching it to the Findagrave memorial page for Mary Sayles Holmes. The image is often accompanied by the explanation that the tombstone was labeled with her grandfather's surname (thus Mary "Williams") because it is in a "family cemetery"; a rather preposterous theory. The actual Findagrave memorial text is clear in stating that Mary has an UNMARKED grave in that cemetery and the image is erroneous.[7]
