Mary Elizabeth Akers was born in 1846 in Kentucky, most likely in Floyd County, where her parents were documented as living. She was the daughter of Jonathan Wesley Akers and Sally Howell. She died in 1908 in Oklahoma.

She married William Tyler Keathly c.1870 in Kentucky. He was born February 1843 in Kentucky. He was the son of Henry Sevier Keathley and Nancy Henry. He died c.1918 in Oklahoma.

She appeared on the 1900 US census for Kay County, Oklahoma Territory, listed as Mary E. Keathley, living with her husband, William, to whom she had been married 30 years.
