Mary Fowler Matthews

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE:

Mary Fowler Roper, (Polly, a daughter of Joel Roper and Mary Gapper Fowler) b. about Q1 of 1841, Mappercombe, bp on March 7th., 1841 in Powerstock, Dorset, England. She m Francis Wride Matthews, 13 Jul 1864, in Winterborne Clenston, Dorset, England, b. c1835 in Gillingham, Dorset, England, d. 1911, England. In the 1871 census, Francis was a farmer of 830 acres in Middle Farm in Barford St. Martin, with Mary 28 and Lilian 5; in the 1881 census Francis was a farmer of 820 acres in Barford St. Martin, Wilts; Mary died 1882. Francis, a widower, later married Elizabeth Early. Francis and Mary had issue.
