From Kay Mitchell (?):
JOSEPH BABB married MARY McCOOL, b ca 1745
Mary was a native of Frederick Co VA and the daughter of James McCool and Ann Wright and the granddaughter of James and Mary Wright who were both pioneer Quaker leaders in northern VA. She was dismissed by the Quakers for quarreling and "she seems to have been on the contentious side." They had at least 4 children:
1 - THOMAS BABB who married MARY KELLETT
Their son WILLIAM BABB married LETIE ROGERS
Their only child, a daughter MARY ANN BABB, b 29 Feb 1820 in Laurens Co SC, d 16 Dec 1912 in Laurens Co SC & buried in the Waterloo Cemetery, Laurens Co SC. She married her cousin SOLOMON TILLMAN FULLER (Ezekiel - Solomon - Solomon - Solomon - Solomon Tillman) in 1840 in Laurens Co SC. He was b 27 Jun 1819 in Laurens Co SC, d 8 Dec 1872 & buried in Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery, Laurens Co SC. Although Danny has them attributed with 11 children, I have only 8 listed: William H. Fuller; Preston A. Fuller; Letitia Fuller who m Walter Warren Walker; Edwin Franklin Fuller; Harrison Calvin Fuller who m Susan Estelle Fuller, daughter of Henry and Charlotte Fuller; Mary Jane Fuller; Solomon Tillman Fuller who m Mamie Elizabeth Teague; Virginia L. Fuller who m 1) Ansley Cole Nelson and m 2) William Henry Wharton.
2 - MARY "Polly" BABB who married DANIEL FULLER They had 13 children. (Jean Sargent, "Babb Families of America, Laurel MD, 2nd ed, 1994)
On the Website of Raymond Leslie Prince (familytreemaker.com), Daniel Fuller was b ca 1765 and d ca 1830 in Laurens Co SC. Mary Babb was b ca 1768 in Laurens Co SC and d before Oct 1853 in Laurens Co SC. He has 10 children listed.
a- Sally Fuller - b bet 1810-1815 in SC; d 1860; m Lewis Nelson, son of William Adolphus Nelson; They had 6 children: Adaline Nelson; Henry Tillman Nelson who m Jane Amanda Fuller; Adolphus Nelson who married Louisa Redden; Emaline Nelson; William Nelson; Zachariah Nelson.
b- Eldridge Fuller
c- Ransom Fuller - m Louise
d- Mercer Fuller
e- Silas Fuller - b 14 Feb 1802 in Laurens Co SC; d 23 Apr 1869 (date on tombstone; death date on estate papers is May 1870) in Laurens Co SC; buried in Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery, Laurens Co SC; m Millie ? They had Jane Amanda Fuller who married Henry Tillman Nelson; Milly Frances Fuller who married an Austin. Silas left will naming brother Ransom, wife Milly and children.
f- Mary Ann Fuller - b Laurens Co SC
g- James Fuller - b Laurens Co SC
h - Barbara Fuller - b Laurens Co SC; m ? Miller
i - Permelia Fuller - m S. Brooks
j - John Fuller - d bef Oct 1853
With the exception of Sally and Silas, Raymond Prince cites as proof the Laurens Co Probate Court Records, "Estate Papers of Mary Babb Fuller", Microfilm: Laurens Co Real Estate 1828-1868, pp 210-213.
Jimmie R. DAves has Daniel, m to Mary Babb, as b 22 Jan 1763 in Wethersfield, Hartford CT and son of Abner Fuller, b 1737 in CT who m 1) Mary Hillard Crowfoot (Daniel's mother) & m 2) Mary Hilliard.
3 - NANCY BABB who married JAMES CULBERTSON, b ca 1770 & d ca 1845 They lived on land neat the Joseph Babb land on Beaverdam Creek not far from Mountville. In 1802, he sold 86 acres on Beaverdam Creek to Robert Pasley which is located not far from Beaverdam Baptist Church. In 1803, he bought 100 acres from Thomas Babb, his brother-in-law, 50 acres on land formerly belonging to Eldridge Fuller (Deed Book K, p 38) and sold in 1808, 228 acres to Jeremiah Glenn (DB K, p 34).
4 - Rev. JOSEPH EDWIN BABB who married 1) Mary Shaw; 2) Margaret McNeese Cook; 3) MARY ANN COOK GLENN (Mary Ann Babb's mother) a - MARY ANN BABB, b ca 1795, married HENRY FULLER (Ezekiel - Timothy - Arthur - Henry) Henry was b ca 1786 in Granville Co NC and d after 16 Jan 1846 in Laurens Co SC. They had 4 children who were listed as heirs in the estate of Rev Joseph Babb in 1843, since Mary Ann was already dead. They were also mentioned in Henry's will. Celia Fuller who m Drury H. Henderson; Narcissa Fuller; Henry Fuller who m ? Culbertson; Leona or Leander Fuller who m William N. Wharton. Henry m 2) Temperance "Tempy"
Then MARY McCOOL's second marriage (remember she was married to Joseph Babb), in the early 1790's) was to ELDRIDGE FULLER (Ezekiel - Ezekiel - Benjamin - Eldridge). In Deed Bk G, p 528, there is a statement from Eldridge Fuller to Thomas Babb his attorney: "I do hereby authorize you said Thomas Babb to pay over rent and residue and remaining part of my said estate in my said attorney's hands to your mother, Mary Fuller, formerly Mary Babb, for her separate use and maintenance therewith as is most agreeable to herself." Since Mary Babb was listed as head of household on the 1790 census with one male over 16, 3 females under 16 and 2 other females, she remarried between 1790 and 1802. Eldridge was on the 1785 tax list but was not in the 1790 census of Randolph Co NC although he was still living in the county. Now comes a puzzler: On 28 Jul 1791, there was a capias (writ of arrest) taken out "against David Hicks on a charge that he fathered a base-born child upon Mary Fuller, wife of Eldridge Fuller." Then in Sep 1791, there was recorded a presentment of David Hicks. It said that on 10 Jul 1791 and at other times between 1 Jun 1791 and September of that year, he committed adultery with Mary Fuller, wife of Eldridge Fuller. ("Genealogical Journal of Randolph Co NC, Vol XXIII, No 4, pp 27 & 28.)
Then Eldridge moved to Laurens Co SC where, in the 1810 census, he was listed over 45 with no children and a wife also about 45. There was another (or the same) Eldridge Fuller in Jackson Co GA in 1820 or 1830. (Danny did you ever find that information?)
Mary died by 3 Jun 1816 and there were probate records of settlement of her estate dated 16 Nov 1818 with son-in-law James Culbertson as administrator. Legatees were Abner, Thomas, Sampson, Joseph, Daniel Fuller, husband of Polly Babb; James Culbertson, husband of Nancy; and each was to receive $54.86. Son James was not included in the estate. He had sold land to his mother Mary in 1806 and had left SC and gone to TN (Sources from Danny include correspondence of Byron H. Fuller, Fort Worth TX)
Mary furnished supplies to the Army during the Revolution.
She remained a Quaker for 24 years until she was disowned for quarreling. The meeting house was located 4 miles east of what is now the Laurens/Newberry Co. lines in S.C.
