Biography

Mary Chandler was born say 1635, probably in England, and died before August 30, 1704 (probate) in Saybrook, Connecticut, as the widow of Edward Shipman (d. 1697). Her origins are not known.

Mary Chandler married twice.

  1. On 31 January 1649 at New Haven, Connecticut to William Andrew Jr. (b. abt 1629). He left America and Mary divorced him, with freedom to remarry, 16 Oct 1661. He was the son of Sgt. William Andrews (d. 1676) and and first wife. He married 2nd to Joan King of King’s Sale, Ireland.
  2. On July 1, 1663 at Saybrook, Connecticut to Edward Shipman (d. 1697); his second wife. His parents are not known. He was Elizabeth Comstock’s widower (3 children). She had died 15 July 1659.

Disputed origins

One gedcom at Ancestry.com conects Mary to Plymouth Chandler family. Anderson, Great Migration Begins, does not support this. No connection shown between Edmund Chandler's Plymouth family and any event in Connecticut.
