Mary Shipman was not the daughter of Samuel Chandler and Margaret Chandler

Biography

Mary Chandler was born say 1635, probably in England, and died before August 30, 1704 (probate) in Saybrook, Connecticut, as the widow of Edward Shipman (d. 1697). Her origins are not known.

Mary Chandler married twice.

1. On 31 January 1649 at New Haven, Connecticut to William Andrew Jr. (b. abt 1629). He left America and Mary divorced him, with freedom to remarry, 16 Oct 1661. He was the son of Sgt. William Andrews (d. 1676) and and first wife. He married 2nd to Joan King of King’s Sale, Ireland.
2. On July 1, 1663 at Saybrook, Connecticut to Edward Shipman (d. 1697); his second wife. His parents are not known. He was Elizabeth Comstock’s widower (3 children). She had died 15 July 1659.

1. Mary Andrews, was born 14 Jan 1650. Married 10 Aug 1676 to John Pratt. Married before 1704 to Mr. Parker.
2. Child b. c. 10 Jan 1652; d 10 Jan 1652.

Children of Mary (Chandler) Andrews and Edward Shipman, recorded at Saybrook, were:

1. John, b. about the 5 th of Aprill, 1664; (1664-1718). Married Martha Humphries or Humphrey.
2. Hanah, b. about the middle of February, 1666 ; (1666-1752) m. 1. John Large, m. 2. Lt. John Whittlesey (1665-1754), Saybrook, Conn. - 7 children.
3. Samuell, b. 25 December, 1668; (1668-1713) m. Hannah ? - at least 1 child
4. Abigail, b. in the beginning of September, 1670; (1670-1750) m. Thomas Butler II on August 6, 1692 - at least 1 child
5. Jonathan, b. in the middle of September, 1674. .

Disputed origins

One gedcom at Ancestry.com conects Mary to Plymouth Chandler family. Anderson, Great Migration Begins, does not support this. No connection shown between Edmund Chandler's Plymouth family and any event in Connecticut.

• Birth of before April 11, 1630 Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, England (United Kingdom) based on reference # 1 removed. No evidence it refers to this Mary Chandler.
