Biography

Mary Higgins, daughter of Jediah Sr and Mary (Newbold) Higgins, was born January 24 1699/1700. Her parents were living in Piscataway, New Jersey, in 1698, but relocated to Somerset County near Princeton about 1700 or 1703. She was the second daughter named Mary, her sibling, was born in 1688 and died before 1699. To name another child the same given name as one who had died was a practice in this time period.[1]

Her father Jediah Higgins, died in 1715, making his will and naming his daughter Mary. He left her £50 to be received when she was 18 or on the day of her marriage.

Mary Higgins married Freegift Stout Sr, son of David and Rebecca (Ashton) Stout. They made their home in Clover Hill, Hunterdon County, NJ.

Mary Stout died before April 16, 1773, the date of her inventory, valued at £108. 2.5. Her will was written Sept 29 1770 and proved 19 April 1773. Mary left her estate to her daughters Mary, wife of Richard Chamberlin, of Virginia; Rebecca, wife of Edward Taylor; and Rachel, wife of Richard Rounsavell Jr of Amwell. My son, Freegift Stout, is to be trustee of my daughter, the said Mary. Executor Edward Taylor, son-in-law. Witnessed by Benjamin Stout, Isaac Stout and Mary Stout.[2]

Children:
