About Mary Taylor

For more information on Grandmother Mary see: Find A Grave; The Jersey; Pioneer Overland Travel - Ten Gallon Company, Church History Library, Salt Lake City, Utah; the Mary (Taylor) Dahlquist biography by Mary Dalquist Gunn;The History of William Joseph Taylor by his Granddaughter Mary Taylor Dahlquist and according to this document Grandmother Mary opened up a public school in her home that was later called "The Seminary." The Taylors departed from Liverpool, England on February 3, 1853 on The Jersey, they arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 22, 1853 and they traveled with the George Halliday Company which was also known as the Ten Gallon Company, which included artist Frederick Piercy. They arrived in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 27, 1853. According to her granddaughter Mary (Taylor) Dahlquist (1885-1957), "Mary wrote a letter on March 18, 1892 which was deposited in a box in the cornerstone of the Second Ward Church. In this letter she wrote: "I would say I thank God I was ever permitted to hear and obey the gospel. I do know and can testify of its truths and that the Lord is the same yesterday, today and forever to all those who love to serve him and keep his laws and my prayer is to all my children and my children's (children) that they will ever walk in that straight and narrow path that leads to life eternal where I hope to meet with those of my loved ones that are gone and also those that will come after." This is included in a "history" which can be found at the Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum in Salt Lake City, Utah under "William Joseph Taylor (1832-1869).
