About Mary Yancey

Curator's Note:
There is NO proof her maiden name was Barlett. To assert her first name was known to be Mary is even a stretch.

Her name does not appear in any contemporary record. Family tradition, a source that proved to be wildly inaccurate for the Yancys, identifies her as Mary, daughter of Richard Bartlett. The IGI shows their marriage date as 14 January 1704 in King William County. However, the date does not appear in local records, or in any known Bible record. The IGI gives many specific dates for this family for which no original source seems to exist. The information appears to be an invention perpetrated by the submitter, Thomas Aubrey Yancey.
