MASTER ALEXANDER MAXWELL

Master Alexander Maxwell is the son of George Maxwell of Newark. The name of his mother is not known. On 6 November 1610, he is noticed as the brother of Patrick Maxwell of Newark, and as one of the curators for Patrick's eldest son and heir George Maxwell, afterwards George Maxwell of Newark and Teiling. In October 1606 Master Alexander Maxwell of Kilmacolm, acting for his brother german, John Maxwell of Barfill, produced a supplication before the Presbytery of Paisley, requesting that John be relaxed from the sentence of excomunication placed upon him, because he had renounced Papistry. The petition was granted. The Abbey of Paisley, pp. 250-51

6 November 1610: Charter by which Hugh Maxwell of Teiling confirms that he has given certain lands, including the lands of Newbigging of Teiling, to his daughter Helen Maxwell and her future spouse George Maxwell son of Patrick Maxwell of Newark. Patricii Maxuell de Dargavell and Master Alexander Maxwell of Kilmacolme, curators for George Maxwell, gave their consent, likewise David M., Joanni M. de Blairfill et dicti M. Alex., fratrum germanorem dicti Pat. M. de N. Certain annualrents were reserved to Helene Gray, mother of Hugh Maxwell of Teiling, Elizabeth Buttir, his wife, and Agnes Maxwell, his sister.
