George Maxwell made his last will and testament at Newark on 21 November 1585. He appointed his wife Marion Cunningham as his executrix.

Marriage

George Maxwell of Newark married Marion Cunningham, who survived his death in November 1585. In his last will and testament he appointed her as his executrix, with full power to intromit with his goods and gear.

6 March 1556-57: Protocol by which George Maxwell of Newark obliged himself to deliver a letter of reversion to William Fleming of Barruchan signed by him and Marion Cunningham his spouse, for the redemption of the fortybsgilling lands of Barlogan in the Renfrewshire parish of Killillan. 4 November 1567:Letters by Robert, Lord Symeple, Sheriff Principal of Renfrew, setting forth that the 5 merkland of Kilmacolme, lying within the said sheriffdom (being of the yearly value of 8 score merks, and pertaining to James Flemyng of Kilmacolm who held it of George Maxwell of Newwerk in ward and relief), had been apprized before him on 4 Nov 1567 in satisfaction of the sum of £2,000 Scots which said James had been acted in said Sheriff's Court books, 30 Oct 1566, to pay to Thomas Flemyng son of William Flemyng of Barrachane with £100 for sheriff's fee, and had thereafter been sold and assigned to said Thomas for said sums by Walter Clark, Officer Reserving to Gabriel Maxwell of Stanelie two merks, and to Margaret Flemyng six merks, of annual rent furth of said lands.
