About Matilda Blackmore

Matilda (MACKALL) BLACKMORE was born October 20, 1829, in Columbiana County, Ohio, and departed this life April 18, 1926, at her home near Scotland, Indiana, at the age of ninety-six years, five months and twenty-eight days.

She was the daughter of Thomas and Sarah (FOSTER) MACKALL, and was the last of a family of fourteen children.

On March 16, 1852, she was united in marriage to Samuel BLACKMORE, who died April 10, 1894. To this union were born nine children. She came to Greene County the same year of her marriage and located on a farm where she resided until her death.

She is preceded in death by her husband, and three sons, namely: Benoni W., George F. and John M. The surviving four sons are Thomas D., Charles S., Napoleon B. and Samuel T., all of Scotland, and the surviving daughters are Mrs. John W. JOHNSON, of Bloomfield, and Mrs. Joseph KERN, of Taylor Township, and is also survived by twenty-nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. BLACKMORE was of a quiet, happy and unassuming disposition; a devoted wife and mother, always ministering to the wants and needs of the family so long as she was able. It can be truly said of her “she looked well to the ways of the household,” and her children can praise and bless her, for the interest of home and family was uppermost in her mind. She was a kind and generous neighbor, and a friend to all.

The funeral was held in the Methodist Church at Scotland, Tuesday afternoon, and was conducted by Rev. HUDSON of Newberry. Interment in Scotland Cemetery.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Jan 14 2022, 4:25:58 UTC
