MIDWEST CITY, Okla. -- Matthew A. "Matt" Browne, 80, Midwest City, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002.

Mr. Browne retired from Tinker Air Force Base, where he had been a contract negotiator for many years. He also served in the Army during World War II.

He was born Sept. 5, 1921, in Emmett, Kan., the son of Matthew A. and Margaret M. McCormick Browne.

Mr. Browne was active in ministering to the home-bound and sick in Midwest Regional Hospital and in Midwest City area nursing homes. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.

He married Phyllis A. Polcyn on June 30, 1951, in Topeka. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Chris Browne, Oklahoma City, and Greg Browne, Las Vegas; two daughters, Margaret Jones, Fouke, Ark., and Carolyn Watts, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Dave Browne and Florian Browne, both of Topeka; two sisters, Theresa Stadler and Kathleen Browne, both of Topeka; and six grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church Endowment Fund or to the Oklahoma City Archdiocese Diaconate Program and sent in care of Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home in Midwest City. http://cjonline.com/stories/020302/obe_browne.shtml
