She was a Freshman at Graceland College in Lamoni, IA when she died suddenly of Eclampsia. Her brother Roy, a professor at the college, was with her when she fell unconscious in her room. She was rushed to a hospital in Leon, but never regained consciousness. Hundreds of people attended her funeral. She was buried near her hometown, in Rhodes Cemetery (today known as Eden Cemetery). Her parents were buried nearby in later years.
