Moses Leavitt (1650–1730) was an early settler of Exeter, New Hampshire, where he worked as a surveyor.[ Later he became a large landowner, and served as selectman, and as a Deputy and later Moderator of the New Hampshire General Court from Exeter. He was the ancestor of several notable Leavitt descendants, including the well-known Meredith, New Hampshire, teacher and almanac maker Dudley Leavitt.

Moses Leavitt

Moses Leavitt married Dorothy Dudley October 26, 1681 in Exeter, New Hampshire. Dorothy was the daughter of Reverend Samuel Dudley 7 3 and the granddaughter of Thomas Dudley, a former four-term Gover nor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and one of the founders of Harvard College. Moses was the father of twelve children, all born in Exeter, New Hampshire: Moses, Timothy, Stephen, Hannah, John, Dorothy, Elizabeth, Sarah, Joseph, born March 23, 1699, Mary, Dudley, and Daniel. Moses was a prominent and respected citizen in Exeter and served as deacon there. He died June 17, 1730 and is buried in Exeter.
