Was doing newspaper research in the Little Rock library and found an article that proved a point. My husband, Lathan Woodard, is the gg-grandson of Fielding & Nancy Howard Veazey who migrated from Granville County, North Carolina to Bradley County, Arkansas in the mid to late 1850s. We were told that Nancy Howard Veazey burned to death...but it was only family tradition. Anyway, I was looking in the 1896 edition of the Arkansas Gazette, the year we know Nancy H. Veazey died...lo and behold I found this:

Arkansas Gazette, April 4, Warren, Ark., April 4 - Mrs. N. Veazey, a very aged and infirm lady living a few miles west of town, fell into the fire this morning and when discovered her clothing was nearly burned off and terrible burns inflicted on her person. She was living from the last accounts, but is hardly probable that she can survive the night.
