Obituary: Teutopolis Press - July 19, 1945

MRS. NANCY McCLAIN DIED JULY 10th

Mrs. Nancy Tolch McClain died at her home in Roslyn Tuesday morning July 10, at the age of 83 years and three days, after a lingering illness.

Mrs. McClain was born in Teutopolis, July 7, 1862, a daughter of William Tolch and Rebecca McElhiney Tolch, the third child of a family of twelve.

She was married to William McClain on Dec. 15, 1881, and they resided in the Roslyn community all of their lifetime. To this union five children were born.

In her youth she was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Gila, in the faith of her parents. She had been an invalid the past eight years due to the affliction arthritis, and through it all she bore her suffering and pain with cheerfulness and patience.

Mrs. McClain was preceded in death by her husband, who died May 23, 1907, and two children, Arthur and Esther.

The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 P. M. at Roslyn church by Rev. E. J. H. Duever of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Sigel officiating.

Pall bearers were nephews of the deceased: James McKinney, Charlie Tolch, Louis McGinis, Cyrus Tolch, Emory Mascher and Harry Bigler.

The floral offerings were in charge of nieces: Rebecca Herme, Mabel Snyder, Carrie McLurey, Clara Mascher, Mabel Siefkin, Ethel McKinney, Emma McGuinis and Clara Stuckey.

Surviving are a son, Ferd McClain of Roslyn; and two daughters: Mrs. Alice Thurman of near Toledo; and Miss Maggie McClain at home; two grandsons: Chester McClain, who is serving in the XJ. S. Army in Germany and Adam McClain of Roslyn, and a granddaughter, Mrs. Grace Hackl of Washington, D. C., and one great granddaughter, Barbara McClain.

Also surviving are four sisters: Mrs. Mary Mascher of Clarinda, Iowa; Mrs. Elizabeth Bigler of Neoga; Mrs. Carrie Eckjan and Mrs. Alice Fuelle of Teutopolis; two brothers, Will Tolch and Sam Tolch of Effingham.
