About Nicola Guthrie
NICOLA GUTHRIE was one of three daughters of the Rt. Rev. John Guthrie, Bishop of Moray, and his wife Nicolas Wood. At the time of her birth in the early 1600 decade, John was not yet a bishop. His oldest daughter, Bethia, was not born until about 1623 when her baptism was recorded in Edinburgh. Mr John Guthrie Minister in Lomburt & Nicholas Wood were listed as the parents. That year, John was consecrated as Bishop of Moray. It was not until 24 May 1636 that he officially succeeded his 4th cousin once removed as the 11th of Guthrie by purchasing the lands and title. By that point the bishop was ensconced at Spynie Palace in the far north of Scotland until after his excommunication and a period of imprisonment in Edinburgh's Tolbooth. He retired to Guthrie Castle.
NICOLA GUTHRIE married REV. JOSEPH BRODIE, Minister of Keith and Forres. He was the sixth son of David Brodie of Brodie. This couple had issue.
