Notes : Nicolaas was baptised with the name Klaas in Cape Town on 13/2/1757 (witnessed by brother

                       Andries and sister Renske). Nicolaas' father died in his first few months, and he thus grew up on

                       the Farm Uitkyk with his mothers second marriage to Christiaan Gottlieb Lessing 1724 - 1788

                       (63) from Kamenz, Dresden, Saxony, Germany.

Nicolaas was 21 and Maria 16 when they married in 13/9/1778 in Tulbagh, Western Cape and

                       lived in the Renosterberg (north of De Aar) /Middelburg areas. Farms owned were Seekooigat S.W.

                       of Steynsburg, Driefonteijnen (the site of Middelburg),De Keur and Vergund S.E of Steynsburg in

                      1785. Other farms were De Groote Valleij, Geelhoutboom, Buffelsfontein,Mistkraal,Buffelsvalleij,

                       Tafelberg and in 1790 Grootfontein just outside Middelburg where his wife Maria died.

                       They were married for 32 years and had 107 grandchildren!
